Error made in Fullmetal Alchemist Series 2 Episode 1?

I've just finished watching the first episode of the new series, and I'm kind of miffed at the fact that in this series Lieutenant Maes Hughes introduces himself to the boys and shows them a picture of his daughter (who looks to be at least 3), despite the fact that in the first series they were the one who helped deliver his daughter and therefor should have needed no introduction. Has this been done on purpose, or was it just an error made that they thought no one would notice?? And am I the only person to have noticed this and been slightly upset that the broke the bond that the Elric brothers had with the Hughes family in the first series
