Should I or should I not ask to call her?

I have this girls number and all we do is text each other, she will say "text you later", or "text me later". Key word TEXT, so I take it for some reason she doesn't want me to call her and vice-versa. Today we were outside at school(not recess we're a little older than that, well maybe not much we're 14) and I was going to go up and talk to her but she was in the middle of her friends so I left her alone. I bet if I had talked to it would've showed those other girls I had the cajonas to talk to her. Anyway when I was walking off my friend says "I'm going tell her you want to something nasty to her." He went over to her and I was still walking off when I suddenly hear a girl yelling "Ewww", then someone was screaming my name and it all sounded very much like the girl. When they were coming back towards me on the other side of the field I asked wtf did he say, and he said he didn't say anything and I told him about the yelling and he said "I don't know why because I didn't say anything.
