What steps should I take in buying a motorcycle?

I'm 21 and I'm in the market for my first motorcycle... and I want something cheap and clic like a 73' Harley speedster or a triumph something like that... I've never driven a motorcycle before but I think I know how... how do I get a license? how much should I pay? where can I get an old clic? what should I look for? are there any cheaper alternative then a Harley speedster or triumph that give the same look?
